When you set up a Turnitin assignment, the platform generates a similarity report for each student submission. The report details any matching text that Turnitin has found in each paper against its databases. This may include active and archived internet information, repository of works previously submitted to Turnitin, and repository periodicals, journals, and publication.
The similarity score is presented as a percentage of a paper’s content – which is visible under the Similarity column in the Assignment Inbox, as seen below.
Note: Similarity check is not an assessment of whether the paper includes plagiarised material, it is up to you to review the submission and use your judgement when interpreting the similarity score. Turnitin’s Interpreting the Similarity Report opens a new window guide provides example scenarios which may help provide some context in interpreting similarity reports.

To get a detailed view of the Similarity Report, click to open the student submission. In Feedback Studio, click Match Overview (percentage) from the Similarity layer. This will prompt a sidebar on the right, with a breakdown for each match with percentage.

Click the arrow next to the percentage for Match Breakdown, to view the full source and its origin.
