Adding Your Reading List (Talis Aspire)

The University utilises a third party tool called Talis Aspire to compile module reading lists.

From July 2024 the way to add new links to Talis Aspire Reading Lists within Blackboard has changed. Existing links to Reading Lists will still work although links to individual sub-sections will still have broken at module rollover and need replacing as usual. All links utilising the new Talis Aspire connector will be much more stable and copy over nicely in future rollovers. The reason for the change is to make the process is more straight-forward than before and ensure links will no longer break during rollover. Eventually the old connector will be removed.

Links to individual Reading List items will have broken in the rollover – they will need replacing with new links.

You can find out more about managing your Reading lists at the Library’s Reading Lists FAQs.

Links to the original and new connectors are shown below and are you can see that the icon has visibly changed to reflect which one is being used:

It is essential that all modules have link to the Reading List at the top level of your module so it is clearly available to students. Any sub-sections of your reading list can be added anywhere in your module.

To add the new Talis Aspire Connector:

  • Open the module where you want to add your Reading List
  • Click on the + icon to select Content Market from the list of options
  • Locate Reading List from the tools displayed and click on it
  • This will open up a new window on the Talis Aspire system
  • Confirm the Reading List for that module or select a Sub-Section of the Reading List
  • Save
  • The Reading List will now appear as a content item in your module.
