Anthology have released a set of AI Design Assistant tools in Blackboard. These have been made available to staff at Durham University from January 2024. Their use was recommended by the Educational Development Committee in November and approved by Education Committee in December 2023.
When the tools were approved at Education Committee, a student rep suggested that staff should acknowledge their use in the course, just as we ask students to acknowledge the use of generative AI in their assignments. This was seen as good practice and the recommendation approved. This page provides some suggested statements that can be added to your Blackboard Course
Where to put this
It is suggested that a single, general statement about generative AI use is added to the Start Here Learning Module in a course, rather than putting statements after each particular instance. This also allows staff who choose not to use these tools an opportunity to make this clear in their course.
We feel that the Start Here location is the most appropriate as it is the recommended location for module-wide information such as Module Handbooks, staff contact details, etc.
What to say
If you don’t use generative AI
We suggest adding a statement like this:
None of the content in this course has been created using generative AI tools.
If you have used the AI Design Tools
We suggest adding a statement like this:
Anthology’s AI Design Assistant (a generative AI tool) has been used in this course by staff as follows:
- To provide suggestions to improve the structure
- To help generate some questions used in diagnostic tests
- To provide ideas for prompts used in Discussion Boards.
Any AI-generated material has been fact-checked and augmented with other content selected by the course team.
Edit the list of tools used as appropriate.
