Form: Setting up a survey in Blackboard

The Form feature in Blackboard can be used a variety of situation to gather feedback from your students.

The following question types are supported in a form:

  • Essay question
  • Likert question
  • Multiple Choice question
  • True/False question
  • Text
  • Local File
  • File from Cloud Storage

Anonymous form/survey

If you wish set a form/survey as anonymous, enable the Anonymous submissions option under the Marking & Submissions section in the Setting.

Send reminders to students who missed the survey

You can send reminder message to students who haven’t engaged in the survey – the same way you can in other assessments in Blackboard.

Navigate to the Submissions tab for the relevant Form. For a non-anonymous survey, use the Student Status to filter students with No Submission and tick the check box to select all and press Send Message.

Draft your message. You also have the option to send an email copy to the recipients.

For anonymous survey, students will not be listed to preserve anonymity. Simply select Send Message to send the reminder.

Limitations

Please note, at present there are some notable limitations to Form tool in Blackboard.

  • Students can select multiple answers for a multiple choice question instead of a single answer
  • No option to set a question mandatory
  • No branching options
  • No analytics on results (based on question rather than individual results)
