How to add extensions in Gradescope

Gradescope allows you to apply extensions to either individual assignments or to the course (all assignments at once). For individual assignments, you can apply extensions based upon the release date, the due date, the late due date, or a time limit. Course level extensions are more restricted, only offering the ability to apply time limit extensions.

Add an extension to an individual assignment

  1. Open Gradescope via Blackboard and then open the assignment you want to apply the extension to.
  2. Next, choose the Extensions link from the left sidebar menu. If this menu is in the collapsed state, just click on the clock icon.
  3. Next select the Add an extension button.
  4. Select the relevant student from the dropdown menu.
  5. Next you will need to choose which type of extension to apply using the extension type checkboxes.

A Time limit extension can only be applied if you set an enforced time-limit on the assignment itself. If you simply want to grant a student more time for an assignment with no time limit, choose Due Date extension. Visit Gradescope’s website, for further information extension types.

Add a course level extension to all assignments

  1. For course level assignments you need to first navigate to Gradescope dashboard homepage. Ensure you’re not inside an individual assignment.
  2. Choose the Extensions link from the left sidebar menu. If this menu is in the collapsed state, just click on the clock icon.
  3. Next select the Add an extension button.
  4. Select the student you want to apply the course level extension to.
  5. Then, select the Time limit checkbox, followed by the time you want to add. This can be a multiple of the original time limit, a specific number of minutes added on, or a new time limit.
  6. Finally, choose the Add Extension button to apply these settings.
