Bubble Sheet assignments involve the use of a pre-printed sheet (a bubble sheet) where students fill in their answers by shading bubbles corresponding to multiple-choice or true/false questions. The papers are then scanned in and automatically marked by comparing the student’s answers against a pre-populated template. If Gradescope is unable to recognise a correct answer, for instance if the student changed an answer by crossing one out, it will flag it as needing to be reviewed manually.

How to create a Bubble Sheet Assignment
- In your Blackboard Course, navigate to where you want students to view and submit the assignment, then choose the plus icon ⊕, followed by Content Market and then Gradescope Assignment.
- You will next be presented with a overlay window that asks you whether this Blackboard link should go to a new assignment or an existing one. As we haven’t yet setup the assignment, we’re going to choose Link with: a new Gradescope Assignment 🔘, then select Link Assignment to confirm.
- From the list of assignments, choose Bubble Sheet Assignment followed by the Next button.
- For the rest of the setup, you can follow Gradescope’s detailed guidance on on creating a bubble sheet assignment. You can start from the Assignment Settings section. The start of the guide covers generic information for people using Gradescope directly, without a VLE.
