The following is an explanation of the difference between Pebble+ and the assessment side called Atlas – both accessed from within Pebblepad itself.
Pebble+
Pebble+ is the space that students log into, to access their workbooks, portfolios etc that they are completing during their studies. These items are called the student’s personal assets.
Staff can create resources which are then made available for use by individual students (see below). Once the student starts using the resource it becomes an asset, which is their personal copy.
In other words, creating a resource is like designing a blank workbook (or even a single page), including instructions, fields for completion, multiple choice questions etc. An asset is the version of that workbook when it is being completed and submitted by an individual.
Atlas
ATLAS is the institutional space that academic and PS staff use to manage workspaces and submissions by students.
A workspace is an area within ATLAS created for a group of users undertaking common activities within a defined time frame. Typically for us, this group of users are the staff and registered students on a module which is using PebblePad to support study or assessment.
Most commonly an academic may want to share a common resource (e.g. the dissertation log book, workbook etc) within the workspace for a Learn Ultra module.
Students will login in Pebblepad and see this common resource in Pebble+ in the Resources section – once they open the resource it becomes a personal asset and stored in the students asset section. Sometimes the asset they are completed, ie a Workbook, it is auto-submitted for assessment as soon as it is opened. Alternative students submit assets, such as portfolio, to the workspace for feedback, assessment, etc. Submissions take place either over a longer period of time (so staff can keep checking in on progress) or can be on a set date.
