Atlas: Creating & Managing a Workspace

Creating a Workspace (Assessment Area)

Workspaces (assessment sections) can be created in two ways:

  • A workspace can be auto-created by adding the ATLAS link as a tool link in Learn Ultra from the content market. This tool link should never be made available to students. The act of opening the tool by an instructor creates a Workspace – asks which Region it should be in (ie Department) and then syncs from the Learn Ultra course all Instructors as Managers and all students as Members. By creating the Workspace in this way – changing membership in Learn Ultra will also update the Pebblepad Workspace. This is the recommended way to do this.
  • A workspace can be created within a Region (ie a Department) and you can upload Staff and Students via a spreadsheet. You need to be made a manager of the Region. CIS can add you to the region or if your Department is already using Pebblepad – they can add you to the region. This option is generally not for modules but specific groups of students.

Note that in an auto-created workspace the the membership is synced via Blackboard then this will always refresh overnight. You cannot remove a student from a synced workspace manually – if they are still a member in Blackboard they will reappear during the next automatic sync.

For convenience for students, after the workspace is created, you should add a further content item to your Blackboard course which links directly to Pebble+ Dashboard for this module. This is how your students access Pebblepad
Then you need to add a Pebblepad ATLAS link to your course but remember to leave this hidden from students throughout.

  • Within a Blackboard course content page
  • Use the plus sign +, as if to add content to the course. Select content market.
  • Select PebblePad Pebble+ option
  • This makes a Pebble+ item with the green man logo, in the course content displayed.
  • Remember to make this item visible to students just before you go live.
  • Repeat to add the PebblePad ATLAS option but leave this hidden

Once you have added the two links below to your course – click on the PebblePad ATLAS link – this action then auto-creates the workspace for you and populates it with managers (instructors) and members (students) automatically.

Managing a Workspace

The Workspace has a Management area which can be seen across the top of the page after entering the Workspace for anyone with a Management role assigned.

This has a sub-menu where memberships can be seen as Members (students) and Managers (teachers). Instructors synced through to the Workspace will get the role of Lead Tutor. If you are asking teaching staff to mark using sets (groups) – you will need to change the role of the markers to Tutors.
